Oregano is a Mediterranean herb from the mint, or Lamiaceae family. It has been used it for thousands of years as a food flavouring agent and to treat health conditions. Greeks and Romans associated oregano with joy and happiness. The name comes from the Greek words “oros,” meaning mountain, and “ganos,” meaning joy.

Possible medicinal properties: Anti-diarrheic, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial action, helps with intestinal atony, relieves cough symptoms, helps with hypertension and arteriosclerosis, antioxidant, helps to relieve symptoms of common cold and flu.

Possible external medicinal uses: Healing, anti-rheumatic, antiseptic. Oregano leaves keep birds healthy.

Used in cooking for flavor and aroma.
